Campaign Update: Mrs Rawlings’ Bleeding Heart Over ‘Little Minds’ Criticizing Her Husband

5 05 2011

Nana Konadu LaunchFormer First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has taken a swipe at critics of the Rawlings’ who say that Mr Rawlings want to be in control of the presidency hence his decision to make her contest the flagbearership slot.

Speaking at the launch of her 2012 campaign, Mrs Rawlings said she represents “independent-mindedness”, that her husband and founder of the party had no interest in imposing his will on the party.

Paying glowing tribute to the man who she said “was not corrupted by the allure of high office”; Nana Konadu questioned the rationale behind Mr Rawlings campaigning for President Mills for three consecutive times when he could have just thrust her on the party.

“I speak frankly of him because my heart bleeds when little minds try to allude that he has been critical of the government because he wants to set the stage for me to stand for the presidency. This is a man who has stood by and campaigned vigorously for the current President for three consecutive elections. Did he not have enough opportunity to thrust me onto the party if he was so intent on imposing his will?”

Mrs Rawlings opined that her intention to contest the presidency was borne out of her believe to see “a bottom-up approach in governance, saying, “the time has come to choose a person who will offer effective leadership, who will be honest about the choices and the challenges we face, a person who will give you hope, who will listen and learn from you”.

She said, “I represent these attributes and I am ready to sacrifice with you to achieve the goal of rekindling hope for a Ghana that every citizen will be truly proud of.”
